Baba Lokenath was born on Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, in 1730 (18th Bhadra, 1137) to a Brahmin family in the village of Chaurasi Chakla, a couple of miles away from Calcutta. His father, Ramnarayan Ghosal's sole wish in life was to dedicate one child to the path of renunciation to liberate the family. So when the fourth son was born to his wife Kamaladevi, he knew that the time had come for him to initiate his boy to the service of the Almighty.

লোকনাথ ব্রহ্মচারী (জন্ম : ১৭৩০ - মৃত্যু : ১৮৯০)[তথ্যসূত্র প্রয়োজন] ছিলেন একজন হিন্দু ধর্মগুরু। তিনি লোকনাথ বাবা নামেও পরিচিত। বাবা লোকনাথ শ্রীকৃষ্ণের জন্মদিন জন্মাষ্টমীতে ১৭৩০ খ্রিস্টাব্দের ৩১ অাগস্ট[১] (১৮ ভাদ্র, ১১৩৭ বঙ্গাব্দ) কলকাতা থেকে কিছু দূরে ২৪ পরগণার চৌরাশি চাকলা গ্রামে একটি ব্রাহ্মণ পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তাঁর পিতার নাম রামনারায়ণ ঘোষাল এবং মাতা কমলাদেবী। তিনি ছিলেন তাঁর বাবা-মায়ের ৪র্থ পুত্র।
